Primary objective

Ensure delivery of high quality, culturally appropriate and effective Occupational Therapy services whilst providing clinical leadership and supervision to occupational therapists and allied health assistants at Alice Springs Hospital.


Context statement

NT Health provides integrated allied health services in a variety of service settings including acute and sub-acute care, primary health care, aged care and mental health. We have a vacancy for a Senior Occupational Therapist within Alice Springs Hospital. Leadership within rehabilitation will be a focus role this role, though clinical service is not limited to this specialty area.

Key duties and responsibilities
1.     Provide timely, clinically and culturally appropriate Occupational Therapy services within a multidisciplinary framework.

2.     Provide expert advice on program and clinical issues within Occupational Therapy.

3.     Provide leadership, supervision, mentorship and education to staff and students.

4.     Independently organise and manage a high volume complex workload within a dynamic and evolving work environment to ensure timelines and health outcomes are met.

5.     Initiate, implement and complete research, continuous quality improvement and service development activities at a local or regional level to ensure delivery of contemporary Occupational Therapy Services.

6.     Lead and/or monitor the achievement of work unit goals and key performance indicators 

7.     Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

8.     Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Requirements

Selection criteria

Essential

1.     Relevant qualifications in Occupational Therapy and current AHPRA registration.

2.     Extensive post graduate experience in providing contemporary, high level clinical Occupational Therapy services to patients and families/carers relative to the setting.

3.     Demonstrated awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture and proven experience in working effectively with patients and families/carers of diverse cultural and social backgrounds.

4.     Proven high level communication and interpersonal skills, including well developed negotiation and conflict management skills, with significant experience working in a team environment to achieve positive health outcomes.

5.     Extensive experience in clinical supervision of students and staff and a commitment to professional development.

6.     Proven ability to initiate, implement and complete continuous quality improvement and service development activities. 

7.     Proven ability to efficiently and effectively organise and manage a high volume complex workload.

8.     Demonstrated high level leadership skills with capacity to provide leadership in a team environment.

9.     NT drivers’ licence or ability to obtain. 

Desirable

Post-graduate qualifications in clinical education, leadership / management, speciality practice area or other relevant field, namely rehabilitation or hand therap
